Organized Chaos

Being a creative person, when an idea strikes, I grab the closest piece of paper and get to writing. Any type of paper will do, I've used the back of receipts, napkins, I even opened a package of toilet paper I had just bought because that's all I could find quickly. The only problem with this is, I accumulate way too many pieces of paper. One recipe can easily turn into 6 scratch papers once I cross off what didn't work and scribble a different ingredient or that a soap needs more pink sparkle mica so it shines more. When I get them out to make more soap or lotion or facial masks, it's like trying to decipher Egyptian hieroglyphics, following the arrows to the next step three pages over and then back two pages to find where I took out mango butter and decided to add some kokum instead.

I've worked this way for many years. I've had a system although it's a chaotic system, it's been sufficient for me. I really don't understand how I can work this way because I have OCD. Everything in my home and work area has a specific place. Yes, even the toothpaste and toothbrush have to be facing a certain way in a certain place, except these papers and papers of recipes.

I have a few that I have actually typed out and put neatly in a book for easy reference and I like how it looks. I just haven't found the time to make myself sit down and type millions of words and numbers and measurements...AHHH! It's just too much. I would much rather be playing mad scientist in my lab and creating new products, but alas, I decided to get this part of my life organized. I've spent the last 4 days tapping away at this keyboard. I think I might almost be halfway through the mountain of papers now.

This is only a handful of the recipes I need to type out..

I do this too!! I try to organize my scraps and that becomes overwhelming and too time-consuming! I recently purchased some notebooks to help me out so hopefully 2018 will be a little less hectic as I get my business plan working for me :) Great job with everything!! I love it.

I have a ton of notebooks in my office but somehow an inspiration hits and I grab the closest thing to me so I don't forget. Maybe I should just scatter notebooks throughout my house..
